I missed the broadcast, but this morning NPR’s Morning Edition ran the Toynbee tile story. The story was aired across the country and around the world. A text version is currently on the NPR.org‘s front page. Audio will be available later today. Sweet!
Heard the story on NPR this morning and COMPLETELY was fascinated by it. Before that, I had never heard of these, but after seeing the pictures, I recall having seen the one in downtown Indy (corner of Maryland and Meridian, I believe)several years ago and having no clue what it was. I am going back there next June and will look for it again. Very creepy. What is the best website to learn more (some of the one’s I’ve gone to are quite outdated)? Any books been written about this? When is the documentary due out?
The documentary crew recently did a ’tile tour’ visiting most of the known North American tiles. Sadly, there are only a few originals left. I think Indy had at least 1 as of January 2006. There was an Indy Star article written at that time. I’m not sure if the recent tour included your city though.
There’s a wealth of information all over the internet on the tiles, but for the most up-to-date, stick with the resurrectdead.com site. They’re currently revamping the site itself. Some of those articles/updates are now available on the message board. You can also check back here, I’ve been doing ’tile research’ for the resurrect dead crew for a year or so now and periodically post my thoughts on this site.
The documentary team has been saying Summer 07 as a release date, but that could possibly be pushed back. Thanks for stopping by!
Now I’m trying to remember exactly what year it was that I saw the one in Indy (wish I had a better memory, but at the time I didn’t really know what I was looking at). I only go there once a year (usually in June for the F1 race) and I’m searching my brain to try and remember if I saw it this past June, or if it was last year. It’s near the Hard Rock Cafe. I’ll try to contact my friends in Indy and see if they can go by there sometime when they’re downtown to see if it’s still there.
